Whoa! It’s been a minute since I last posted anything. Life sure can get crazy…in a good way! During my hiatus, I’ve re-discovered some old cookbooks as well as some new ones. We can’t always dine out and when we eat at home, why not partake in the culinary experience in your own kitchen? Here are some of my faves:

1. Cravings: Recipes for All the Food You Want to Eat by Chrissy Tiegen. Not only am I fan of this spunky lady, but I admire her for her passion for food. If you happen to follow her on SnapChat, you’ll see what I mean. One of my favorites in the book have to be her Creamy Potato Salad with Bacon!

2. Ad Hoc at Home by Thomas Keller. Thomas Keller is my Chef hubby’s idol. He’s world-renowned and deserves every bit of notoriety. I’ve been to 3 of his restaurants: 1. The French Laundry 2. Ad Hoc 3. Per Se. I remember every bite from each restaurant. Each restaurant has shared their own cookbook, however, we can’t always prepare a Michelin-rated dinner for the family, so this book shares more family-friendly meals very much like Ad Hoc’s menu.

3. Besh Big Easy: 101 Home Cooked New Orleans Recipes. Besides “The Chef” hubby himself, Chef John Besh is my next chef crush! Not only has he created a restaurants empire in New Orleans, but he’s philanthropic and has a great heart. For refined New Orleans’ homestyle recipes, this is your resource:

  1. I’ve attached the links to check them out for yourself. What are your favorite books at the moment?
  2. Stay tuned for some new, up-and-coming restaurant reviews in New Orleans!

Philz Coffee was on top of my list as a must visit spot in San Francisco. Everyone I know was raving about their Mint Mojito Coffees so I had to try it for myself…

I’m a dark, black coffee kinda girl, but every now and then, I like a little change up. The mint mojito coffee was refreshing and I enjoyed the fresh mint that they use. The hot one was perfect for this cold day wandering around San Francisco! I’d love to try to the Iced Mint Mojito next time. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to try any other coffees, but I’ll be back. I hear the Tesora is pretty good too! As you can tell, they have quite a large variety of beans and I’m looking forward to trying them when I’m back in SF!

When “The Chef” and I decided to travel to SF, we wanted to make the most of our trip since it was only a short 3-day vacation. Our first stop was a small deli located in The Contemporary Jewish Museum. You wouldn’t think there’s a sandwich place there…

The pastrami was delicious. It was moist and very well-seasoned. The added coleslaw gave it such a refreshing balance. One thing that I am so surprised at is how delicious the potato salad turned out! I’m from down South and I could’ve sworn we did it best, but this potato salad reminded me of my childhood and how my dad’s friends would always bring us potato salad, because they knew I loved it! Food is always the best when it evokes childhood memories..

The restaurant is quite small and not many seats are available. I would even recommending taking the food outdoors and eating on the steps, if the weather permits. We chose to bring our sandwiches to our next destination, Papa Beard (post coming soon), for dessert. I would love to try the Hot Corned Beef next, but we had to ration our stomach space for other restaurants this time around. I will definitely be back, and hopefully, we can explore the museum too!
